I started into the winter with great ambitions, with the goal to improve last years achivement and, as always, with the uncertanity about the own competitivness. But things never turn out the way you expect it!

Grande Finale

Training at home

Half of the season is over and it is time to look back and out into the near futur. My personal summary of the running Skiclassics season is done quickly: two missing starts (injury and sickness) and two third places. I must admitt that I imagined it a bit different. I have tasted winning these kind of races so you get kind of addicted to it (Susanne probably knows what I am talking about Wink).

Transjurassienne- what a race

Kari and I representing Team Exspirit last weekend

Since I have had enough weekends off earlier this season, I decided to take part in this weekends FIS-Marathon Cup in the French Jura. Wheater gods were not in a good mood again. In addition to the cold temperatures there was a heavy wind blowing right into our faces for about 40 of the 50 K. That combination caused an apparent temperature of  -28 at the start. No wonder that 5 minutes prior to the start, none of the about 40 women starting in the elite groupe at Les Rousses was ready at the  line but everybody waited as long as possible to take  the down jackets and warm-up pants off…

HOW TO: Fight the cold

Date: Sunday, 6th February; Time  7:30 AM;  Temperature: -23°; Location: Oberammergau (GER); Mission: König Ludwig Lauf, 50 K classic

Jenny and I were sharing room and what to wear in those polar conditions outside was the big question prior to the race. Since I did not feel cold despite below 20 at the start, I am going to tell you how good clothing and smart behavior can protect from coldness.

First Long Distance Race is History

Second Place in Dolomitenlauf  yesterday was a great relief. It felt simply amazing to be back on the tracks, wearing a bib and competing over the distance. After a month of struggling with a back injury and going form Osteopath to the Doctor and back to the Chriopraktor, I did not know if I was able to perform the way I wanted. During ther race, when I was skiing in a group of six ladies and both my body and my skis felt good, my confidence was back.
